I can't wrap my brain around an exploding star leaving a gravitational hole. This article helps me visualize it even better. It's just incredible. Do we know where the gravity comes from? (Maybe everyone does and I haven't been paying attention.)
According to Einstein's General Relativity, gravity isn't a true force the way, say, electromagnetism is. It's more like the result of the way objects with mass or energy warp spacetime around them. I definitely recommend Thorne's book if you want to know more.
